About Me

qwiky

My name is Jennifer Steele and I just started my 11th year of teaching at Blue Lick Elementary, a part of JCPS. This is my third year at this particular school, and I absolutely love my co-workers. I have taught two years in 4th grade, 5 years in 1st grade, three years in 3rd grade, and this will be my first year in 2nd grade. I have previously been the School Technology Coordinator for my school for two years and last year I worked with the school’s VEX Robotics team. I received my Bachelor’s Degree from Indiana University Southeast. My Master’s Degree is in Elementary Education with a Focus on Technology from IUPUI. As much of my experience in the world of education has been focused on technology, I decided to pursue the LMS program at WKU, but taking the technology route. This helped me to earn my Rank I in December of 2016. I’m thrilled to be done with grad courses, as I do not have any plans to return in the immediate future, and hope to devote the time I used to spend on homework to my family.

I grew up in Indiana in a very small, rural community. I have lived in Louisville for 13 years. I have been married to my husband, Sean, for 5 years. We have a son named Michael, who turned 4 in March. We have 3 very needy cats. I enjoy reading in any free time I may have, weight lifting with my husband 3-4 times a week, and have recently taken on a part-time job.

  1. Jennifer, it is great to see someone that works with the youngsters. I think that is a great age to teach, but I do not have the patience to work with them. I am also a cat lover and have 4 cats. Three of them are rescues and the fourth is the kitten of a rescue. I hope to be a middle school math teacher in a couple of years.

  2. I enjoyed reading about you and family. It sounds like you have a very busy and full life. I will also be looking to graduate in December 2016.

  3. It is nice to meet you. It sounds like you have a wonderful family. I too am scheduled to graduate in December of this year. Hope you have a great semester.

  4. I am sure that you are excited about graduating in December. It is quite an accomplishment. I, too, enjoy the ever changing technology.

  5. We have very similar backgounds. I too grew up in a small town like you, but I don’t live in a big city like Louisville, but Owensboro is big enough for me now. I use technology every day in my classroom and am constantly looking for new tech tools myself. Congratulations on graduating this coming December. I will graduate next May! Best of luck!

  6. Hi Jennifer! I will actually being Louisville for the next 3 days working on creating units with the JCPS World Language Curriculum.

Your little boy is adorable. I have also been taking advantage of a little extra time and have been reading this summer. You’re a little faster than me I guess. What do you like to read?

  7. Jennifer,
I noticed that you like to read! That is one of my favorite things to do. I have been using my free time this summer to read when I can. It seems like you have a pretty big background in technology! I can’t wait to see your ideas this semester!

  8. I like your choices in technology projects, I may have to get the name of the one with glitter all over the photo. I am also from a small town except in Kentucky. I love to read also when I have extra time.

  9. Jennifer, your bio is very interesting. What is your favorite grade to teach? I am in my 10th year of teaching as well. Can you believe a decade of our career has already happened?!? Wow! Best wishes on your Rank I graduation in December!!!
